Safeguarding... what is it?
Safeguarding means protecting people's health, well-being, and human rights, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse, and neglect.
Key responsibilities
Protect from harm
Stop abuse, neglect, exploitation, and discrimination before it happens. Keep an eye out for red flags.
Support and listen
Take concerns seriously. Don’t dismiss someone if they open up — listen, support, and act.
Report concerns
If you see something shady? Report it. Fast. Follow your organization’s procedures (or whistleblow if needed).
Know the signs
Emotional withdrawal, unexplained injuries, poor hygiene, or sudden behavior changes? Could be safeguarding issues.
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility
Safeguarding is not just a job for professionals. Everyone has a role to play in keeping people safe.
Whether you’re a family member, friend, neighbor, or community member, you can help protect vulnerable individuals.
Report a Safeguarding Concern
If you suspect someone is at risk, report it. Your action can make a difference.
